6 September 2005 - Back Home

Bugger - back in the UK, alhough the trip was amazing - already planning to go back and do a follow up involving visiting Key west, Cuba and the Bahamas in a kind of hattrick of fishing paradises! Last day of the holiday was awesome - livebaiting with baby snapper and pinfish produced another savage tarpon take ( Im really not sure how you are supposed to land these - the power is simply incredible) - described by a local as like catching a car! Took another nurse shark and ace took a large nurse and a big grey snapper. awesome fishing from the shore in a swim that backed onto a main road! First experinece of dragging sharks out of the water tail first in order to land them - WHAT AN ADERENALINE RUSH! as soon as they feel your hands they go mad and spin on thier own axis with incredible power -thier sandpaper like skin wearing away your own! Also first experience in trying to unhook a shark - again an amazing buzz! After shark fishing till midnight on the last night, we went out to the bars until 4am and then went swimming in out hotel pool until 5am, then at 7am got the greyhound to Miami for the final flight home during which we polished off southern comfort and gatorade (no lemonade available @ airport) - this is possibly the worst drink in the world but it was either gatorade or milkshake as thats all they had in the departure lounge so the lesser iof the two evils was chosen! I sit here now working and Im still hungover and tired 2 days later!
