Just got back from an amazing trip to Naples in Italy. The captain of a boat i have been working on asked if i wanted to go and i said yes. We left Antibes on Thursday at 1.00 pm and set sail originally for Corsica as our first stop. Due to lack of time we sailed through the night where i witnessed my first sunset at sea. It was truly beautiful. With dolphins jumping around the boat and scoffing excellent bread and cheese as well as supping extremely tasty wine we saw the coming of night and a truly amazing sky as the stars shone like lights on a Christmas tree. Rotating watches meant not much sleep, and i went through copious amounts of fags trying to keep awake.
Morning came with the decision to go to Elba and not Corsica as the port was to out the way. I was given the opportunity to sail the yacht around the island before we arrived in port in the afternoon. Much needed coffee and a shower was on the agenda so we went off to explore.
In the evening we ate locally caught fish in a nice little restaurant close to the beach. This included octopus. after several bottles of wine and some alcoholic made of lemon we went back to the boat for more wine and the bottle of local liqueur we had bought. With Santana blasting out we danced rather drunkenly with the girls on the next boat until the early hours of the morning.
After only about an hours sleep we left Elba and carried on our way down the Italian coast towards Naples. We stopped once more, this time to top up the depleted stock of fags on a beautiful little island close to the mainland.
We stayed a night here eating local pizza under the beautiful but still sleeping Mount Vesuvius.
The next day saw us take the 15 hour sleeper back to Nice where they crammed 6 people in to a space where two of us had spent the last five days.
With the little holiday over it is now time to go back to work.
Life can be a right pain sometimes.
