6th September
After breakfast we drove up to Hervey Bay and booked ourselves into the youth hostel as they had campsites as well as rooms. Once we were settled in we had a walk round the marina and stopped at the sailing club for some lunch. Over lunch we made some phone calls to find out which company gave the best quotes for hiring 4 wheel drive jeeps as we planned to go to Fraser Island the following day.
Fraser Island is just of the coast of Hervey bay and is about 75 miles long and covered with sand, it is mainly forest but has a number of fresh water lakes and creeks. Most people who do the 3 day tour go in a group of 11 people but we decided it would be more personal and enjoyable if we managed to go with just the 4 of us as we could pick our own food and places we wanted to visit.
We found a suitable company offering jeep hire at a reasonable cost so we booked it up and went food shopping for our 3 days away. At 4pm we headed to the hire shop to watch a video on how to drive on the island, it see med a little daunting as they showed us pictures of jeeps that had crashed on the island!
That evening we had dinner and went to bed ready for an early morning.
