well, i'm now officially travelling! mum was very brave when we said goodbye, but i must admit to blubbing a bit as we left the house!
stayed with Northern's friend Rory in london before we flew. the best night i've spent with a non-smoking tee-totaler in a long time. i really mean that.
flight was VERY long, but pretty good really. must remember to congratulate richard branson when i next see him. there was 1 kid on the plane that wouldn't stop squawking. so i killed it. all very peaceful after that.
Sean Hughes from 'never mind the buzzcocks' was on our flight, we had a ciggie with him at sf airport. yes, i know, not very impressive, but how many people got a light from a minor celeb today?
san francisco is lovely! if a little rainy at the mo! which didn't make today's mission much easier.
we wre told by STA to pick up our hire car at union sq. ok. until we got here and found that union square is completely pedestrianised. hmm.
so we went to the STA office in sf, right off union sq. phrases like 'chocolate teapot', or 'condom machine at the vatican' spring to mind.
we spent a while wandering from one hire company to another, being sent pretty much all over the city.
needless to say, danny at international car hire was very surprised to be engaged in a bear hug by two dripping wet english people, sobbing with relief. we pick the car up at 12 tomorrow.
san francico is lovely, did i say? all the time we were wandering aimlessly, everyone was so helpful and friendly. even the crazies are friendly. and trust me, they do a whole new breed of crazy here! we saw a woman wearing nothing but a poncho. seriously, nothing. and it was see-through. not sure what look she was going for.
we also saw fisherman's wharf. no fishermen, lots of tourists though. and shops selling tat with 'san francisco' written on it. or something about being an inmate at alcatraz. the hilarity!
alcatraz was good though. when i take over, all prisons will be like that! (kidding). it was fairly entertaining for something so informative! did you know, for instance, that 3 guards were killed in and escape attempt (prisoners were trying to escape, not the guards). see, informative.
we got the cable car back. you know what they say about tourists, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. and there were too many to beat with one small umbrella!
gotta go, someone else wants the computer.
hello to some school kids who are apparently follwing me (thought i heard something behind me - boom boom). you lucky people. blame my mum!
