4 March 2008 - Muine and the journey to dalat...arrrggghhhh

So we decided we would stay at muine for 3 days. The first day we had a look around the town and saw the kite surfers. Dan was eager to have a go but after finding out the going price we gave it a miss (200 GBP) for 5 hours tuition.

Day 2 we met a canadian guy called thor who dan had met at our beakfast street vendor in ho chi minh city. We all wanted to see the sand dunes which is muine's biggest tourist attraction other than the beach!! Thor bumped into a guy from his home town (random) so we decided we would rent mopeds and find our own way as the jeep tours were pricey.

We managed to get the bike for 5GBP for 2 days, bargin!!

After getting the bike we made our way to muine fishing village. We were wandering along the deserted beach, looking at the fishing boats when a local guy in a small round boat asked if we wanted a tour of the bay. We decided to throw caution to the wind and give it a go!

altho it cost us $3, it was well worth it as the guy paddled for at least 20mins. Dan had a go and only lasted 1min, and that was going round in circles!!

We all set off at 2.30pm, hoping to see the red dunes first. As we drew up to the red dunes we were mobbed by a group of kids all wanting us to give them money to use their boards to slide down the dunes. (see the pics below!!)

Dan gave in and had a ride whilst jackson and thor had to contend with the relentless kids for another 5 mins!!! Dan emerged a new colour from his ride, the red sand had stuck to his sun lotion, doh!!

We rode on, coming across both a herd of cows and goats in the road. After about 20mins we turned down a dirt road with the white dunes in sight. On the approach the dirt road turned into a sand trap so we slowed right down but still lost control, the back end of the bike flung out and so did i!!! Falling into the sand, we had only been going about 5mph so i wasnt hurt and even found the funnyside of it!!

Dan and jackson had a go sliding down the white dunes which were much bigger and without the pestering kids.

We made our way home just missing a loan cow in the middle of the road. the evening was spent getting the sand off of us.

Day 3

We headed down to the beach for a relaxing morning, enjoying our books and the sea breeze.

The rest of the day was also spent relaxing altho dan got a bit heated when i beat him at chess!!!

We had a nice evening meal with thor, before dan had to take the bike back. The local guy loaned us the bike with an empty tank, so dan took it back empty. As dan pulled up to the guys shop the bike literally ran out of fuel, excellent!!! The guy tried to get dan to put some petrol in it but he reminded him of the arrangement. Needless to say dan walked away smiling.

Muine to dalat.

We were picked up at 7.30am. We expected to arrive in dalat at 2pm. We spent the first 4 hours on a mini bus before changing to a coach. At first we were happy with this as we thought it would be more spacious, which it was. Unfortunately the air con didnt seem to work for the remander of the 4 hr trip. This was definatley the lowest point in our trip so far. Dan had a headache and i felt faint the whole way. aarrrggghhhh.

We finally arrived in dalat at 3.30pm, absolutley exhausted. We were ushered to a near by hotel where the room only cost us $6, the cheapest so far, so we took it.

The rest of the afternoon was spent sleeping off our headaches before heading to the market in the evening (where dan bought some new flip flops).

I think that is enough for now as tomorrow we go on a three day tour to nha trang via the highlands.

We will update you when we get there.

love to all xxxx
