24th July
I woke up early as usual, although I think the noisy French couple in our room had something to do with it!! The hostel we are in has free wireless internet so ii was able to log on and catch up on some journals. Dan is still feeling under the weather so I left him to sleep a while longer.
By 1pm, Dan was up so we headed into the city for lunch, we didn’t really do anything apart from looking round the shops but we couldn’t buy anything any way.
We spent some time reading and had an early night, as we wanted Dan to get better.
25th July
We couldn’t quite believe that we were flying to Australia today, the last 5 months of our trip have gone so fast it seems like yesterday we were boarding our flight at Heathrow!
We didn’t fly out until 10pm so we had the whole day to kill, we had planed to get on a sight seeing bus but in the end, we walked to the raffles hotel and looked around the grounds. It was a lovely place but I don’t think we will ever be able to afford a night in somewhere so up market!!
By this point, we were feeling hungry so we headed to the nearby suntec center, one of the many malls in Singapore! It took a while but we finally found a place to eat, chicken and rice!!
Due to our terrible diet since being away we have put on a few unwanted pounds, especially me, so we had decided to buy some trainers so we could get running when we reach Australia. Strange as it may sound we are both eager to get running again as we both quite enjoy it! Dan had spotted a new gadget in one of his magazines, it’s called a Nike band which you wear on your wrist whilst you run, you also insert a chip into your trainer and as you run the band picks up a signal from the chip (a bit like a pedometer). By having this you can log your runs, the time it takes and the distance so you can see your progression. We had decided if we had any cash left at the airport in Singapore we buy one each, in hope it would encourage our running.
The rest of the afternoon we mulled around the mall, we found a great engagement ring for me but it was 7000 GBP so that was a no go!! We are going to wait until we get home to buy one but it was still nice to have a look!
Before we knew it, it was 5pm, so we headed back to get our bags from the hostel. We had time for a quick bite to eat then went to the local MRT (tube). It was very easy to get to the airport so we were there by 7pm. As we have changed a number of our flights we had to get our tickets changed, we had been told it would cost around $25 each (15GBP), but to delight it didn’t cost us a penny!!
We checked our bags in and headed to the duty free shops, we had enough money to buy the Nike bands!! An hour later Dan and I had bought new trainers and a Nike band each, we were ready to go!!!
By 9.30pm we were boarding our flight, we had to stop at darwin before continuing on to cairns, we were due to land at 8.20am their time!
