8 December 2008 - Lorne

27th November

We got up at 6am as we didn’t want to risk being caught as we weren’t sure if we were allowed to camp there. After breakfast we drove to a lighthouse In Airelys Inlet, they used this lighthouse to film a children’s programme called round the twist. The views from here were great of the coastline, unfortunately it was rife with flies so we moved on to our next stop.

Lorne was a beautiful village, again it was a popular surf spot so Sarah and I decided if the surf was good in the morning we would hire wetsuits and a board. On the way into the village we were stopped by the police, I stayed quite in the back whilst Dan was breathalysed thankfully within 5 mins we were on our way again!! We stopped in the information centre before finding a coffee shop where we had a lovely ice cream then wandered around. We had got some information from the centre and decided to go on one of their walks, we drove up to the national park and ate lunch.

Dan decided he wanted to read so Sarah and I went on a walk, we went into the rainforest and for the first few hours we had quite a hike as lots of trees had fallen over. We went to back to the van ad arranged for Dan to pick us up 4kms down the road as we were enjoying the outdoors seeing as the weather was good.

We had one more stop to make Teddy’s lookout, it was at the other end of town, as we walked down the path we noticed some people taking pictures of something in the tree, when we got closer we saw our first wild koala!! It was just sat up I the trees munching on the leaves, we watched it for a few minuets before wandering down to the view point.

We decided to drive north to find a place to stay as it was schoolies week where the kids break up from uni so a lot of the campsites and hostels were either fully booed or ridiculously priced. After about 20 mins we found some where it had both toilets and water, better still we were the only people there!!
