10th November
It was till raining when we awoke this morning, poor Sarah had a leak in her tent and had been dripped on during the night! The weather was proving to be a nightmare for us as the tent and tarpaulin needed to dry off before we can pack it away in the van. I decided to ask the ladies staying in the lodge if they would mind us leaving the tent on their veranda, they kindly obliged and invited us in to have our breakfast in the warmth!
After a shower and a very leisurely breakfast we were ready to go, we thanked the ladies and gave them a yummy banana cake for their troubles. Just next to the lodge was dangar falls so we went to see that before we left, there was a rainbow at the bottom as the sun had finally come out!
As we passed through town we stopped at the bakery to pick up some bread for lunch before going back to the sky bridge to look at the view, today we could actually see the view and it was stunning. For lunch we drove a very slow 10kms down a dirt road to the never never picnic area. Our lonely planet guide book had recommended this as a great place to have lunch so we were pretty disappointed when we arrived to see nothing very special!! On the upside there was a snake there which we had a look at although we kept our distance as we didn’t know if it was poisonous or not!! Lunch made up for the disappointment of the picnic area, the bread from the bakery was the best I’ve had in a very long time, I think the local brush turkey sensed this as it wouldn’t leave us alone even after Dan chased it up and down the hill waving a stick in the air!!
Time to more on again to the next waterfall, Ebor falls was huge and the view surrounding it was beautiful and showed how vast Australia is. We walked the 1.5km to the different view points as so far the sun was still out so we wanted to make the most of it.
We continued on the surrounding countryside was great to take in on the drive, in some places it even reminded us of the countryside back home!! We went down an unsealed road again, this time to find our camping spot for the night. We set up the tent and Dan went searching for fire wood whilst Sarah and I prepared dinner. It was lovely to sit around the fire that night, it not very often open fires are allowed when camping.
