24 th August
This morning I shaved Dan’s head after breakfast as his hair was getting long, the campsite also had a laundry so we got some washing done before driving to Finch Hatton Gorge. The gorge was fairly similar to the Mossman gorge, we sat on a rock in the middle of the stream and had some pineapple and fruit! At the picnic area there were some huge kookaburras which stole some unsuspecting tourists’ sandwiches when they had their backs turned.
Dan, Colm and I cooked up some noodles and went back to the picnic area to watch the birds some more before driving back to the campsite to pick up our washing. On the way back we passed a coffee shop in the Finch Hatton village so we couldn’t resist stopping for a cappuccino!
After picking up the washing we were back on the road, after an hour or so of driving our front tire burst, not what we needed!! Luckily we had a spare tire and Dan had it changed within 20 minutes, both Colm and I were very thankful, after a quick cuppa we were back on the road again.
25th August
First stop this morning was Rockhampton as we all need to go on the internet especially Colm who needed to change his flight to an earlier date. His girlfriend had received a phone call from her parents a few days earlier to inform her that her mother had just been diagnosed with cancer so he wanted to get to her ASAP. We also wanted to use a computer to try to sort out the problem with our own as we still hadn’t managed to fix it. Whilst in the town we also got our tire fixed just in case we got another flat, whilst we waited for that Colm and ii prepared lunch so we were ready to set off again to do some food shopping.
Due to Colm’s change of schedule it was his last night with us so we decided to get somebarbecuee food. Armed with sausages and mince we drove to the nearest free camp site and started to prepare some homemade burgers. After a great dinner and or last evening together we went to bed, ready to Drop Colm off at the station in the morning.
