13 May 2008 - a day waiting!!

10th May

We had to be checked out of our room by 12pm but our bus wasn't until 6pm so we had a lot of time to waste. Dan still had a coupon for the gym so after breakfast he went there whilst i spent some time on the net sorting through my pictures.

It was areal shame as i had email Lauren an American girl we had met in Vietnam and again in Laos, as i knew she was coming to bangkok. I was hoping we could meet up with her and Matt as they were good company. Unfortunately she read her emails a bit to late and she was leaving bangkok the same day as us, we are hoping we might catch up with them on the island.

The rest of our day was spent wandering around until 5pm when we collected our bags and headed for the travel agents.

We got on our bus and tried to get comfy for the 12hr ride. Although it wasn't the most comfortable bus ride it went well compared with others. By 6.30am we arrived in Chang Mai, all we had to do was find a guest house!

11th May

We looked for about 40Min's and in the end settled for a cheap and basic place. Sometimes it feels like hard work trying to find a place as your never sure how much a decent price is for that area so you have to look at at least 3 to get a rough idea. Then finding a place when you have no map of where you are. In the mean time you are constantly badgered by tuk tuk drivers or taxis who you don't trust to give you a fair price. On top of that your carrying a fairly heavy bag in very hot weather whilst being extremely tired from the journey you just made!! Oh its a hard life!!!

The rest of our day was mainly spent in bed trying to catch up on some sleep, and in the afternoon we had a wander round trying to get our bearings and find where the cheap places to eat are!!

They also had a Sunday market so we had a look there before getting an early night. So far we liked the vibe here, although its a city we are in the old quarter which is fairly quite. It still has ancient walls and a moat surrounding it which gives it a nice feel.
