Today i decided that i couldn't justify just lounging about on a beach all day and figured i'd do the 2 hour hike up to the top of Diamond head which is a huge volcanic crater near by to Waikiki. So after some quick tuck for breakfast i set of on my quest to reach the simmering peak. I won't go into too much detail cause what can you tell about walking - left foot forward, right foot forward etc! anyways it was bloody hard work and i made the executive decisiion to walk as fast as i could to get it over and done with which meant that in the heat i was sweating like Pizzey in a kiddies playground. views however were very nice - could see the whole bay and all the coral in the pacific. The crater was interesting but ruined by the fact the car park for this wonderful national monument was right in the middle - typical americans! The problem after this however was that i had a tedious hike all the way back to base! fun! So once back at base i wandered around waikiki for a bit seeing all the ABC stores and looking for anything of touristy interest before heading back to the hostel where i chilled out with Angie/angela - she calls me Grant and its got way to far to say anything now! awkward! Yeh so we just sat and drank and watched american tv - again! its bad having a tv in your room - puts you off going out - guess you save some money though.
The next day was my last in Hawaii and on the Island of Oahu and i guessed i really should see some more of the place and thus did the major touristy thing and signed up for an island tour - it was through the hostel and so i figured it would be like a young thing and would be a great way to get to some places i wouldn't have had the opportunity to see. Needless to say i brought the average age down to about 70. Was good in some ways though as we cruised around the Island i got to check out the north Shore, the blow hole which is a type of geiser thing, and this bay which used to be a volcano and looked great. The downsides were that i was sat next to an 80 year old american woman who wouldn't shut up, the tour driver sounded like the north korean leader off Team American "hawo" and we had to spend a tedious hour at this pinapple farm which was entirely staffed by the mentally challenged. Nice idea in theory but not when your trying to order lunch! so for all of you thinking i'm away just partying hard i am infact dipping into momenets of tedious hell. It got a lot better when i got back to the hostel however as our room was full of people for some reason and a mini party was going on which i joined in! for martins benefit it was "fucking brilliant and there was lots of fucking shagging"! got hamered on shots of rum which was bloody horrible to drink and whiled away the hours before a few people got kicked out the hostel for smoking weed on the balcony - its illegal to smoke in a building in Hawaii and its of course illegal to smoke weed - what this meant however was that these douche bags had no where to stay at 2 in the morning - haha!thats one interesting this about hawaii - the smoking ban in buildings - it just means that everyones litterally sat out on the pavements smoking and so you can't walk anywhere without there being smoke in your face - it doesn't seem much better to me!
Today i had to get up early which was a struggle and myself and this swedish couple i met the night before had to get up to go to the airport! i can't really be bothered to go into this day cause it was pretty irrelevant - i left on the 16th at about 12 midday and reached fiji at 8 on the 17th. thus losing an entire day cause i flew over the date line - bugger! the only interesting things that happened were i was sat next to this pro surfer the whole way - i have no idea who he was or if he was even that famous but i'll try and find out and secondly i got to stop in Xmas island for an hour which was amazing to fly over and was so basic! it was also where the UK did their atom bomb test in the 50's and apparently only now have they finished cleaning up the mess! It definitaly had a reminded me of africa -all the kids running up to the plane and waving and the people getting on having somewhat of a body odour problem! nice! Anyways on the 17th when i arrived i had to sort out my stay at beachcombers as recommended by my good pal Sir Ian Dean! the first people who greated me told me that this wouldn't be possible and that i'd have to stay in Nadi for the night. I didn't believe them fortunately and carried on towards the offices where i sat and chatted to this huge fijian guy called bruno about getting to Beachcomber - he said no problem as long as i paid about 100 fijian to get their at this off peak time! bugger thats like 30 quid but i went for it anyways just to get out of the airport! the journey to the beach consisted of a taxi by this little irrate indian fellow who moaned at me for interupting his chicken curry dinner - geez sorry mate!! a stop off in a bar on the main land while i waited for my boat to be ready where i had a few pints and then a boat journey over to the island. Unfortunately cause of my late arrival i didn't get any nice welcome or anything but was rewarded with a hearty meal to keep me going. It was now about 10 and i dropped my stuff off in my room and headed over to the bar to see what sort of japes i could get into, had a cheeky pint and got chatting to these three english lads Colin, Craig and this london cabby Simon who couldn't be any more of a geezer if he tried!- spent the next 2 hours getting hammered on jugs of Fiji gold in the Sand bar before they closed the damn thing up! One thing that did happen was i got to meet this group of norwegian guys who were somewhat celebrities on the island for the fact that they pretty much drink all day and party hard! My first exposure to them was when they were about to be thrown off the island for refusing to pay for some nuts coupled with the fact that the night before they stole a bottle of vodka! nutters - anyways they somehow managed to sweet talk the guy behind the bar and stay - turned out they were in my room as well - Great! anyways i was knacked and was looking forward to the next day when i could actually see some of fiji in the daylight!
Anwyays this has probs been my worst post but i'm seriously knacked today and its like 8 in the morning cause i had to get up for breakfast - thus can't think of anything witty or interesting to tell and i'm fucking lazy - shes not bad in bed! boom boom!
