I have to just say.. that travelling around South America is not as easy as it sounds.. there are a lot of bus journeys that you have to do (if you are budgeting as of course you can fly if you can afford it!), some uncomfortable, some possibly life threatening but also some very beautiful, like today, travelling through the Andes for 20 hours... I am very tired and smelly writing this as we have just arrived in Cusco after a 48 hour bus journey that has had more bad than good points!
We have just spent the best week in Mancora, staying in a fab place with an excellent tropical feel with the bungalows and chilling by the pool and with a two minute walk to relax on the beach. We stayed for about 7 days to get over the 4 day journey by bus from Colombia...
Lee had made a few new friends on the beach, a blond that wouldnt leave him alone and a brunette that would come over every now and then.. but luckily for me they were both dogs! Took an instant liking to him and followed him around the beach with a bottle in his mouth (or whatever he had stolen from the beach goers) until Lee would give in and chuck it in the sea where Wally would fetch and drop it back to him (Wally is what we called the dog as he truly was one!), this lasted for hours!
I have, sort of learnt, to body surf, but i am still a bit too frightened to let go in case i drown! I did have a washing machine moment when i got caught up in the wave, Lee said all he could see what arms, legs and hair all over the place! I got a bit scared after that and just sat back and watched!
Our time was up for the week and we had to move on again so we donned our busing it persona's and off we went all positive to get the bus to Lima... What a nightmare journey that was, we had devil child to the right of us, this kid and its mother needed a big dose of Supper Nanny! Would not stop screaming, not crying just screaming, all the way when it was awake! Puked up on the poor guy that was sat next to them and pretty much annoyed everyone on the bus, for 23 hours!!! Now i know that a bus ride for that long cant be fun for a child, but you will be amazed how many children have been on the busses out here of all ages and you dont here a peek out of them! To rub salt into the wound on that journey, we were robbed of both our cameras from right under our noses from the overhead luggage compartment when we were sleeping - and who said Colombia was a dangerous place eh! We have had more trouble in Peru than anywhere else so far! So now we have to go out and buy another camera! Second bus journey was not too bad, no kids for a start and got to see the Andes which were amazing!
As i said we arrived a few hours ago, just ate in this amazing cafe called Jacks Cafe.. best food - but i am sure anything would taste good seeing as our last proper meal was 48 hours ago! There is a lot of night life to be had here... We have seen an Irish Bar and Lee has spotted somewhere that does a Sunday Roast tomorrow so all is not lost! Our plan was to just spend two days here but like everything i am sure it will be a bit longer... We are off to Maccu Picchu on Monday and then hopefully off to Lake Titicaca to cross into Bolivar there by Tuesday... We are really trying to get to Argentina for next Friday!!
We are really enjoying our time away, getting to know the "warts an all" of each other and we are still here to tell the tale (after a few things were ironed out after the first few weeks)! Lee has discovered my complete irrational behavior if i don't consume food for over 12 hours, but once fed and watered all rational is resumed. I have learnt that Lee has an unhealthy obsession with the amount of cosmetics that i carry, and we are not talking out of the norm here, just the usual like shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, face moisturisor etc... (!!!) all of which i can confirm that he has used! So not really all that unnecessary :-).
So for now the photos will be stopping, lucky we only had a few of the beach on the camera so didn't lose a weeks worth, just really cross at the cheek of doing right under our noses :-(.
Right i am off to get that shower (if the hot water is working!) Lee is trying to convince me to go out and get slaughtered tonight, but in all honesty i am shattered and struggling with the altitude... But i am sure we will end up doing something!
Happy reading, Chao for now.
Kate and Lee xxxx
Edited to add - we did go out! Lots of pub type places here and had a really good time! Studied LVīs chat up techniques when he was trying to get one more drink out of the barmaid, have to say it did work, but what a load of waffle he was producing! haha... Currently in search of a camera and doing serious comparasions on-line so pictures should resume shortly :-). Over and Out.
