Well, the quick and the short of it is that we were unable to get a flight home due to them all being booked, thanks again Luce for trying!! So we have decided to spend our last week in an island.. but first Rio....
We both have mixed feelings about Rio, it is undoubtedly a really cool city, but the down side is that you cant see any of it in great detail (other than organised tours etc) because of the fear of been mugged or robbed...
In one day we witnessed a mugging after a really nice day at the beach, it was a pretty nasty one on an older couple, and then we got back to the hostel to find out that one of the girls had been mugged again (twice in 6 days) whilst watching the sunset on the Copacobana... We also have no photos of Rio, as to avoid being robbed you literally have to go out with nothing on you, no camera and no great amount of money....
Therefore we have spent the majority of our time in the hostel... This is not to say that we have not had a good time, as there is a really good crowd there and the hostal was by far the best we have stayed in despite the shared rooms with the smelly boys!! We have also probably spent the most of our time drunk, oh and i am slowly learning poker! But it did get the to point where we decided that we didn't come to Rio to spend it in a hostel.
A group of us, about 10, decided to get to Ilha Grande for a few days (we are probably staying here for the remainder of our trip)... It is a beautiful island, but the weather is not too great at the moment so we are just having a chilled out day by the sea in a hammock at our hostal... but there are plenty of beaches and lagoons to explore and some diving to inquire about... Had a good night last night at the all you can eat BBQ! We starved ourselves all day to just eat piles of meat! I have become a meat junkie!!!
So that is about it and probably the last journal entry as it is expensive to use the net on the island due to it being very remote....
We have had a great time away, glad we are spending the last week on an island, a great way to end a three month trip in South America.
See you all next week!
Hasta luego amigos
