Hello… it has been a few months so I thought I would do another update to let you know how we were getting on… last time I left you we had just got our van which we have Christened Wilma :-).
Well, there has been progress over the past few months. The first thing was our ‘road trip’ to do some whale watching and drive along the Great Ocean Road… So the van was kitted out with a bed, hand made curtains and duvets and sleeping bags were at the ready (it was to be a cold cold weekend!), we had our mahoosive cold box with just our wine in and off we set on a Thursday night to our destination of Warrnambool where the Southern Right Whales go to have their calves and luck would have it, one was there with her 12 day old baby….. We had booked a camp site for our first night and arrived about midnight with the view to get up early the next day for find those whales… binoculars had been purchased especially for the occasion.
Whale watching was a success, we saw mum and baby but didn’t really capture it fully in the photos, by the time the whale came out the water we took the photo she was gone again! We were really excited to see them and stayed for around 4 hours to make sure it was worth the travelling down there… Binoculars were brilliant and seeing the Whale through them was so clear… Lee doesn’t fully know how to share yet, but he is learning -) (we should have brought two pairs), we were like squabbling children for a turn on them! But it was all in good fun… The weather was freezing! But we were tucked up in our coats and just enjoyed seeing the whales…
After that the rest of the trip was driving back to Melbourne along the great ocean road… which I did most of the driving I am proud to say! Although I was going so slow along some of the drops hugging onto the road as I didn’t want to fall off into the sea! Lee was very patient though!! We stopped off at a few places along the way for meals, views and to sleep. I really liked Torquay and Bells Beach where I forced Lee re-enact the scene in Point Break with me – he was quite good as Patrick Swayze. We saw loads of surfing doods and was lucky enough to see a Seal swimming in there with them – at first we were convinced it was a shark but further inspection through the binoculars said it was just harmless seal -).
So that was our first road trip and tester for the Van and she passed with flying colours… nice and comfy and very warm… Oh apart from our error in psycho killer town…. We were trying to find the campsite and it was pitch pitch black, we turned down a wrong road and had to do a three point turn and drove into a ditch!!! Our wheel was stuck and Lee couldn’t push it out so without giving me the chance to come he went off to find help. OH MY GOD, I was crapping myself! There I was in the pitch black dark on my own, my heart was racing, in a van that was stuck in the smallest town in the middle of no-where…. I was trying to talk myself down from freaking out, should I stay, should I get out and run for it!?!?!?! What seemed like hours (5 minutes in real time) I heard voices, Lee had managed to get some people from the pub to help him come and push us out of the ditch… I was so relieved to see him, and when we woke up the next day and saw the spot in daylight it look completely different and turned out to be just a little hole – I felt a bit silly at over reacting! Haha….
Since then we have just being doing boring every day stuff like working! Lee has finally started college for his pre-apprenticeship electrical course which goes on until November, and he isn’t the eldest there! He is enjoying it and getting up a lot better than when he was working at the factory! I am still at the same company and getting on well there but not much to report on that. Kev was with us for two months and now has moved up north to work in the sun!!! I wish winter would hurry up and finish, Spring is only round the corner and officially start on the 1st September but the nights are getting a bit lighter!! I can’t complain too much though as we still have some lovely bright sunny days in the middle of winter!
We have had some luck with our tax returns and have some cash coming our way and can now go out and buy some more furniture!!! I am so excited!!! Finally we can get some bedroom furniture and something to put our TV onto!! We have also decided that where we live is a bit too quite for us and not much going on in the terms of vibe! So we are going to look to move as close to the city (if not in it) as we can get…. We have six months left on our rental agreement so this gives us plenty of time to scout a few places out…. I think that is one of the reasons for me feeling homesick so much, I miss the hustle and bustle and busyness of MK or going out on a Friday night after work drinks with all your mates or just to a restaurant with more than two people in it! :-S… So that is the plan and I am sure we will up date you all and let you know how it is going .
I think that is from us so far… nearly 9 months in this weekend and time has flown so much! Still miss everyone loads, but with Carla and Karl getting engaged in Thailand (and a big big congratulations again) we will be back sometime in the near future – date to be confirmed.
So much love to you all and over and out for now….
PS - thanks again to my drunk sisters who woke up me and had me running around the house from phone to phone on Saturday morning – it was very amusing and hope the heads weren’t too bad on your Saturday!! At least I could go back to bed!! Hee hee. xxxx
