7 July 2006 - Last of Peru?!

Cant remember the last time I wrote or where I was... thinki it was machu Pichu, so there is a fair bit to fill in that I dont think I have time for today.

very breifly I have been to arequippa, and was not well, so went back to Cusco to do a horse tek and see a doctor... had a rash from head to toe, and a swollen face. One of my lovely friends from Cusco was kind enough to suggest that it was an STD, but was nice enough to cook me (and half the hostel, it really was a ridiculous amount of food) dinner by way of apology. and the doctor was nice enough to infoprm that it was an allergic reaction, and after inspectying my tonsils told me to my great relief that they were not infected... which was a relief seeing as I had them removed when I was 6.

The horse riding in the Urabamba district was incredible, if anyone who is interested in horse riding gets the opportunity, riding a pure bred peruvian paso horse is not one to miss out on, esp when the scenery around is so beauitiful!

then I headed to Ica to go to Huacachina for sand boarding. that was fgun, but wish that I had some kind of surfing or snowboarding experience as I might have attempted going down the hill standing. Instead I sat on my Bottom, and got in incredible amount of sand in my eyes, nose, mouth, ears and all manner of places! I visited the Nazca lines from Ica, and enjoyed it, although none of my pohotos came out! so an Irish guy at my hostel sat for an hour or so and drew his own in the sand for me to photograph... actually he did a good job!

I then headed to Lima for a brief spell, not as bad as everyone says, but then I did not leave Miraflores! experienced the cuisine from around the world as that is what Lima is famous for. aka Macdonalds, dunkin doughnuts, and many more that I did not have time to try. I experienced some lof the culture, like shopping and bowling (?!) and then some night life too.

headed to Huraz, and went to the hotspings, they have been turned into a swimming pool, are toffee coloured and only luke warm. but it was a nice day. the variety of food was so extensive, that we had trout for dinner, and trout for breakfast, and went all out and managed to get chicken for lunch. The we headed to Yungay to sdee the lake - lagunas llanganuco, which is absolutely beautiful! definately worth the 8 hour trip from lima! for dinner, we had the choice of chicken, chicken, or chicken. so I went without that night as I wasnt in the mood for chicken. To try and break the bordem of the town we got a bottle of wine, which turned out to be dessert wine and absolutley disgusting!

then we headed to Trujillo to meet some friends and not go surfing or do anything cultural... getting quite lazy now! but I did get a fantastic Chocolate fondue!

Then we went to Mancora to beach it fo a week! the weather was beautiful and there was decent food available, but in true peruvian/south american fashion awful food service! b ut what can you expect! went and did more shopping... and have a reasonable tan!

we headed back to Lima in order to fly to Iquitos, and make preparations for our boat trip. found a really good market for contraband goods called Porvol Azules... definately worth a look. and had a reaaly good arabian meal for dinner! was not disappointed in meal or service! was very happy!

I arrived this morning from Lima by flight into Iquitos, and have not done much yet, caught up on some sleep as we had to bve up at 330 for the flight, and have had a brief look into speed boats to the boarder!

so this will probably be my last entry from Peru! so next time I write, with anyluck, I should be in Brazil!

let you know how this boat trip on hammocks and a hundred brazilinans goes!

bye!
