Well, today is nine days before I am to board a plane for the Indian subcontinent. I have virtually no language skills, know no one there on close terms and have not made a single reservation aside from my plane tickets. On the other hand, I am as ready for a free-flowing, free-form walkabout as one can be.
My primary purpose for going is to attempt to make a portfolio of images showing the impact of modern technology (particularly digital) on Indian society. I decided to focus on India because of its great history as an evolving but continuously civilized area, its recent good fortune in industrialization and "cyberization", and the exquisite faces and vibrant colors found throughout the country. Although I imagine that it would take decades to approach the thesis as a whole properly, I've chosen to focus on Rajasthan, and to that end I intend to work my way down from Delhi to Mumbai through the Rajasthan region.
