hi all!
i´ve been working at Santa Martha animal rescue for 5 days now and its amazing!!! although the altitude has got to me. i think my nose has bled every day i´ve been here and it doesnt seem to be getting better!! youve got to walk slow.
so a typical day here is sort of as follows-
7am - wake up
8am- cut up fruit and veg to feed to monkeys, parrots, coatis, bears and galapogos toitoises, other animals that i dont know what they are or... change the water in the various cats cages- ( havent done this yet as last time i walked to there cages i had to sit with my head between my knees to stop me from fainting!!)
9.30am ish- feed animals (not the cats) this is fun! the capuchin monkeys will come and sit on your shoulder as you enter the cage, but theres a really scary, horny male wooly monkey who has a thing for girls and clings on your face whenever you go in its cage, its far too strong for that to be good!!
11.30am ish- general maintainance, weeding, building new cages, knocking down old cages etc
1pm- lunck!!
4pm- clean out cages (not cats and bears!!) sweeping the floor is actually fun when there is a monkey on your head!! cafe browsers, its the way forward!!
6pm- finish!!
were staying on a dairy farm and the views around are amazing, its either fields or snow capped mountains, wish i could send photos but my cameras too old to allow me to do that.
i hope this email makes sense, the computer screen has good wierd and i cant really read what im typing.
talk soon,
catherine
