19th April
After an emotional ride the previous day we thought we'd visit the museum which just has artifacts from the temples!
It only took an hr or so to walk round so after that we just strolled about the city. Some areas are clean but most parts have huge mounds of rubbish and rotting veg on the side of the street. That combined with the heat creates a horrendous stench!!
This bears quite an important factor when picking a restaurant to eat in especially when the tables are outside!!
We found a supermarket near our guest house which was great. Its nice to be able to find a price on something and not to have to worry about bartering!! Well we found a big bar of decent chocolate, we were happy!! We also bought some bread rolls as we planned to get the bus to siem reap in the morning.
In the evening we watched the killing fields in the guest house, it is a film based on the story of Cambodia and the Khmer rouge.
20th April
We got the bus at 7.30am, Anna and lee the dutch couple we had been traveling with since Laos were also on the bus heading to siem reap. We arrived at 2pm and was picked up by a tuk tuk from our guest house that we had pre arranged from phnom phen.
Anna and lee said they were going to go to a hotel nearby to utilize their swimming pool and asked if we wanted to join them. It was a great idea, the perfect way to cool down after a sticky 6hr bus ride. The pool was really nice although the water was quite warm so there was none of the inching yourself into the water like you would at home!! We spent 3hrs there before heading back for a shower before dinner.
At 7.30 we met up with Anna, lee and another dutch couple we had met in phnom phen, Anna and Marcel. We got a tuk tuk into town and found a restaurant. The food was lovely, Dan had a much wanted steak and i had a coconut curry! We had a great evening and went back to the guest house feeling satisfied!!
