22nd December
After breakfast we finished packing our backpacks and took all the things we didn’t need down stairs to put in the free corner. All of our bags were jam packed, we just hoped they would not exceed the bag weight limit!!
The shuttle bus picked us up at 11am and we arrived at the airport in 45mins so we had plenty of time!! The queue for checking in was huge and it took us an hour, next we had to queue for immigration, then to go through the x-ray machines, Sarah must have looked dodgy as she got searched and checked for explosives, by the time we actually got through we had hardly anytime for shopping, typical as I had to get Dan a Christmas present!!
Sarah and I got dan’s present plus a bottle of vodka and baileys for whilst we were on the island, then headed back to find Dan. On the way Sarah tripped over a plug socket that was I the middle of the floor and really hurt her toe, so she had to hobble the rest of the way to the gate as by this time we needed to board the flight. We also spotted a merino wool shop so I bough Dan and I some thermal trousers ready for when we get to Canada.
Our flight took 5 hours in all as we were delayed on the ground for an hour before we set off, it was quite comfortable although the immense number of kids noise for 5hrs solid gave Dan and I a headache!!
It was 9pm by the time we got to Horizon backpackers, our place for the night. We dropped our bags in our room then went to the restaurant for dinner before going to bed, we were all pretty excited as in the morning we would be going to the island which would be our home for the next 17 days.
