9th April
We decided to hire a push bike and cycle to the Wat phu. Wat phu is a pre-ankorian Khmer temple and palace, and is one of Laos world heritage sites.
It was 11km from our guest house but there was only one road in champasak so it was easy to find. We left at around 8.30am and already it was hot.
We spent about 1 1/2 hrs walking round the site, it begins at the bottom of a mountain and gradually goes up. Its a beautiful setting and luckily plenty of trees around for us to shelter from the sun.
We were pleased to find that the museum on site was air conditioned so we managed to get some respite from the heat before cycling back.
The journey back was hard, by this time it was midday and none of the road was sheltered. Dan had started to get heat rash behind his knees so we stopped for a much needed ice drink.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing, there really isn't much you can do in this heat, you either have to get up early (an unknown concept for Dan ha ha) or do things in the eve, however it gets dark at around 6pm so that limits what you can do.
That eve we bumped into abby and yasu some americans we had met the previous night and chattedf to them for a while. They like us were making there way down to 4000 island the following day so we were hoping to see them there.
