11 June 2008 - Making friends in Mae nam

4th June

As normal i woke up earlier than Dan so i headed to the restaurant to see if anyone was around. The previous night we had met another couple who were also staying at the resort. Michael and Jo were also from London (like anwar and Kate), so i sat in the restaurant chatting to them for a while.

We decided that we would have another day relaxing on the beach, the resort had a book swap so we were able to enjoy a bit of reading. Kate had bought a beach ball so in the afternoon we mucked about with that in the water...until our eyes were red raw and couldn't take the salt water anymore!! It felt good to do something energetic, Dan misses the gym and i miss running (something i will take up again when we get to Australia).

That evening the six of us went out for dinner and bought some drinks from the 7-11 so we could enjoy them on the beach. It was nice to have some good company again. It was also a nice feeling to watch balloons rising up into the sky with just the flame giving it away.

Here on the Thai islands they have a very simply made balloon in which you make a wish before lighting the candle, the hot air then makes the balloon rise. Eventually it gets so high you can just make out a small dot in the sky before the flame goes out.
