20 August 2008 - Poi in the rainforest!!

9th August

I woke up at 6.30am with the sun shining into the van, we need to get a windscreen shield!! I got up and had a look around, the beach looked beautiful so after taking a few pictures of the sunrise I headed back to the van to make a cuppa!

By the time we had had breakfast, made sandwiches, showered and packed up in was almost 11am, we would certainly have to hurry things up in the future if we wanted to make the most of the day!

We drove further north to the daintree national park where we stopped at a look out for a few pictures, it gave us a great view of the coast. Next stop was a walk trough the rainforest, after 3.5km we were ready for lunch! We were hoping to see a cassowary (a native Australian bird which can grow to 2m in height) unfortunately it remained illusive, although there had been one around as we spotted some very colorful dung!!!!

After lunch we practiced some poi, a new Zealand past time where you swing balls on a string, Colm has been showing us some of the techniques so we are going to try to practice every few days!

By 3pm we were back on the road heading further north to Cape tribulation a town where the rainforest reaches the beach! We arrived and found a camp site, the owners were away for the day so it looked as though we would get a free nights stay!
