14 March 2008 - the 3 day tour of the highlands...Dalat to nha trang

Day 1 of the tour

Ok so the next day we headed off at 8.30am. The riders took us to lots of places, first stop was the flower nursery. We didn't stay long but got to see the different flowers which they were producing. We also stopped off on the roads side where there were miles of coffee plantations. You could smell them as we were driving through the hills, the coffee flower smells like jasmine, so that was a nice experience.

We were also shown how the silk is made, and the life cycle of the silk worm.

There are many waterfalls around dalat and in the central highlands so we had a few to see. This one we saw on the first day was my favorite. Al tho it wasn't the biggest waterfall we saw it was beautiful. All the area around it was a lush green. It was quite hard work getting to it especially as it was hot and the crocs (shoes) didn't help as some areas were quite slippery,

Just up the hill from the waterfall was a pagoda (temple) and a huge laughing Buddha.

We stopped for lunch on the top of the highlands, the view was great and the food good too. We had a verity off rice, meats and soup.

That afternoon we stopped at a minority village, here the people are similar to gypsies, we were told by our guides to look around their houses and take pictures. We just sat outside tho as it didn't feel right just wandering trough somebodies house without being invited. It was nice just to watch the children and animals playing. In the village areas of Vietnam it's quite normal to see puppy's, piglets chicks and calves just wandering around, quite often in the road, we had a few near misses!!!

That evening we stayed in a traditional long house, in a village by the lake. I thought the lake was particular beautiful with the mountains in the background and paddy fields along side. The toilets in this place were pretty grim, more so due to the fact it was a breeding ground for mosquito's. Needless to say we didn't spend much time in there!!!
