16 June 2008 - Koh Phi Phi..........

Dan and i got up early and had some bread and marmalade in the room before getting the bus to the port. It had just about stopped raining but it was still looking pretty glum.

We got on the boat, sat down and read our books. It didn't take long before the boat was rocking all over the place, just my luck that the sea was still rough!! I had a plastic bag on hand just in case and spent the whole 1 1/2 hrs looking at the sea! Even Dan was feeling queasy and to make matters worse there was diesel and smoke fumes filling the cabin, so not only was i just about ready to throw i also felt light headed!! In the end we got up and made our way to the boat deck, we decided it was better to get wet that inhale anymore of those fumes!!

As we were getting close to the island you could also see Koh Phi Phi Ley, this is where they filmed the movie the beach. Although the weather wasn't great it was beautiful to see the limestone island coved in greenery sitting on a bed of turquoise sea.

Koh Phi Phi itself also looked beautiful with its white sands, palm trees and clear waters. It was however as you'd expect touristy. As soon as you got off the boat there were people shouting at you where you go...you need a room...we have bungalows!! We followed one guy just to see his map and what he had to offer but in the end we decided we could get something cheaper by cutting the middle man out.

We trudged up the narrow water filled street where a lady in a dive shop helped us find a cheapish place for the night. We settled in and headed off in search of lunch.

After a nice lunch we explored the island a bit. We came across another dive shop and booked up for the next day. We were both very excited as the diving here had good reports and there are plenty of sightings of sharks!

We went and checked out the beaches which were OK but certainly not the best we had seen, besides it wasn't really beach weather!!
