9 January 2009 - (2) Goodbye Rene

12th December

Dan and I were quite anxious to hear from the French girls, although they had given us a deposit we were still worried that they may change their minds and we had quite a lot of interest from other people so we didn’t want to turn the away until we had the full money in our hands.

Dan and I decided to go into town in the morning so we could get out of the hostel whilst Sarah and Brian went back into Sydney. The French girls said they would call around 2pm but they phoned earlier to say that they couldn’t get the money for another day. We were very disappointed but we understood the girls position and that the bank wouldn’t let them take any more money out.

After having some sushi in town we walked back to the hostel and got soaked, the weather had been bad all day so we just chilled out in our room, we were beginning to get used to sharing with a load of strangers. Sarah and Brian were heading off to Byron Bay that evening and we had originally planned to meet them in Sydney for dinner but as the weather was so bad we gave it a miss.

13th December

This morning I received a txt from some friends I used to work with in Safeway’s, they moved to Sydney 7 years ago, they asked if I wanted to meet up with them that night, that gave Dan and I something to look forward too.

The French girls were due to call us at 2pm again so we headed down to Bondi beach to go on the coastal walk, this area is really pretty but in the end we had to get back to the hostel because it was so hot and was unbearable being in the direct sunlight.

We received our phone call but the girls wanted to pick the van up at 9pm so I cancelled meeting Donna and Steve (my friends from Safeway’s) as we were still in Sydney for another 9 days so there was no rush.

It was (9.30pm by the time the girls arrived in Bondi, we drove the van into a car park so it would be easy for them to drive away. I was actually quite sad to hand the keys over although $3000 eased the pain a little!! The girls seemed really chuffed with her and were happy to keep the name Rene although they gave it a French twang!! We took some last pictures of us and Rene and also of Rene with her proud new owners, once we had finished the deal I was eager to leave as I didn’t want to drag it out any longer.

Both Dan and I felt sad as we walked up the hill back to the hostel but in the same sense we were feeling very relived as we wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore. We were also stoked that we had gotten $3000 for her as we thought whoever bought it would knock the price down but the girls hadn’t even asked.
