After an early breakfast we load John and Rachel’s (J&R) stuff into the van and set off. Between us we had decided to go to the glass House Mountains as J&R hadn’t been and the view was amazing so we stopped off on the way to Australia zoo.
The zoo was owned by Steve Irwin, for those of you who don’t know he is famous throughout the world, for his wildlife television programs which mainly focused on crocodiles and snakes! He died 2 years ago whilst filming a program, it had been the anniversary of his death the day before so they had a huge memorial for him there.
We spent 5hrs in the zoo before driving further north to Gympie, we looked around for a backpacker’s hostel for J&R but we could only find motels. We were just heading back to the cheapest one we had found when we were stopped by the police. This was not good as J&R were laying on our mattress in the back of the van and by law they should have seat belts so if the police saw them we would probably get fined.
The police officer breathalysed Dan and asked a few questions before letting us go again. I don’t think either J & R breathed in that time and I was shaking like a leaf, but it seemed we had gotten away with it.
After our close call we checked J&R into their room for the night, Dan and I stayed for dinner before heading to a rest stop just down the road from where J&R staying.
