1st September
Dan and I were up and fed by 7.30am, we were hoping that our insurance would cover the windscreen as we had specifically taken out a wavier on the windscreen excess, if not it would be costing us at least $400 (200GBP). We were feeling pretty down about things by this point as the computer was also still broken, the windscreen could potentially cost us a fortune and we yet had to find work to support our funds!
By 9.30am the van was fixed all we were waiting for was the insurance company to call to tell us what we had to pay. Thankfully we were covered by the wavier and didn’t have to pay a penny so we left the shop feeling very relieved!
Our next task of the day was job hunting so we decided to visit all the hostels in the area to see if they had any jobs going or if they had any adverts o their notice boards. We made a few phone calls in answer to some ads but nothing really seemed very promising. At one of the hostels they said they may have some vacancies coming up as a few of the staff were leaving within the next month, we left our details with the girl on reception and headed on to the next hostels.
By 3pm we had gone to all the hostels in Southport and the neighbouring town of Surfers Paradise, we hadn’t really got any where as the only jobs going seemed to be telesales and neither of us fancied that, at least we had the one possibility, Aquarius backpackers, we just had to hope for a phone call!
We left the area and headed inland in hope to find a free camping area, on the way we stopped at a resort on the top of a mountain, it had fantastic views so we enjoyed a coffee and a cake. We also filled out some resume cards whilst we were there, you never know, right.
That evening was a disaster we drove around for bout 3 hrs just looking for somewhere to stay, we were both very hungry and stressed as we hadn’t had any lunch only the coffee and biscuit at the resort on the hill. In the end desperation got the better of us and we stayed outside a petrol station as every campsite we had been to was closed.
