20 August 2008 - Dan, Colm and Julia hit the road!!

8th August

I went for a run in the morning, Dan stayed in bed as he had been with Colm the previous evening. As it happened Debbie let us clean for another morning so we didn’t have to pay for our last nights accommodation as someone had let her down, things seemed to be looking up! Colm and I went into town when we finished cleaning, where I was able to get insurance for the van. We also stocked up on fresh fruit and vegetables from the local weekend market, whilst Dan went to pick up the van. Finally we had the van and after registering it in mine and Dan’s name we were almost ready to leave. We had one last bit of shopping to do before setting out for Wonga beach just north of port Douglas, we were all pretty syked to be on the move again, we had over stayed our time in Cairns!

After 1hr 30mins on the road we pulled up to Wonga Beach camp site, it was already dark by this time so the boys spent a while getting Colms tent up for the first time! The site had cooking facilities so I made a start on the chicken salad, it was a bit of a rigmarole as being our first day we hadn’t packed things up very well so ended up having to un load the whole van just to make a cup of coffee!

After a very tasty salad we were all feeling tired so set off to bed for our first night in the van!
