25 May 2008 - around the town and the tiger temple

21st May

Today we decided to check out what the town had to offer. First on our list was the Thai/Burma railway museum. Our trip to the death railway and hellfire pass had given us an in sight to the history of kanchanaburi this museum add to that.

Next to the museum is the cemetery of some 16,000 Prisoners of war, all of these were English, Australian and dutch. It was nice that we had learned about the history before going here as we were able to appreciate the meaning of the place.

Originally we had planned to see some of the other museums but we decided against it. the other museums were also about world war 2 and the railway and we felt we had learnt enough and it was pretty depressing!!

The rest of the day we spent looking round the town and walking beside the river.

22nd May

Dan and i were very excited about our plans, we were going to visit the tiger temple in the afternoon.

We spent the morning reading by the river on the floating platform, i was keeping my eyes peeled as a python had been spotted here just a few days before. Unfortunately i didn't see anything other than a few boats whizzing by.

We got the bus at 2pm and was at the temple by around 3pm. We only had 1 1/2 hrs so we made our way to the ticket office. Typical it started to rain and not just a bit either!! I was told after i paid that i wasn't allowed to wear an orange top so i would have to buy one from there shop! Just another money making scam as when we got inside i saw other people wearing orange and when booking the trip i was told not to wear red!!

So we got in after signing our life away! We headed straight to the tiger canyon where you can be photographed with the tigers. Due to the rain there was nobody down there, so we headed up to the cubs cages.

It was a bit of a disappointment really as they had some of the cubs on leads and some others were tied to the tree. I don't know what we expected from this place but it felt wrong being here and it certainly didn't seem in the tigers best interest.

Soon our time was coming to an end so we headed back to the bus, the trip seemed a bit of a waste of time but we did meet a group of English girls one of which is from crowborogh!!

That evening we spent some time with the girls we had met that day before heading for an earlish night ready for the day ahead.
