Our journey to Hanoi wasn't too bad, we arrived at 5.30am, there were lots of people waiting to take us somewhere when we got off (all trying to make a bob or two!!). We got a lift and was taken to a hotel in the centre of the old quarter. We booked up for 2 nights and arranged a trip to halong bay.
Hanoi is a VERY LOUD city. All you can hear both day a night is car\motorbike horns, the noise is terrible. Their driving is also crazy to say the least....walking down the street is a chore as the traffic is all over the place!! They don't stick to one side of the road they just go where ever they want!!
The old quarter is jam packed with stalls, the streets are fairly narrow and the pavements are full of parked motorbikes and goods from the over flowing shops. So walking around here is quite hard, altho its an interesting sight!!
We didn't really do much in Hanoi, just walked around taking in the sights, smells and noise!!
Our street or alley where our hotel is stinks, they sell and prepare fresh meat and vegetables there and just leave the rubbish all over the floor..as you can imagine the results look and smell bad. Walking along there with flip lops is a no no as i found out. the ground is wet from the blood of the meat and the water from washing\preparing veg. The result is getting covered in dirty, smelly muck!!!
