11th April
We were pick up at 8am, our first stop was supposedly the biggest waterfall in south east Asia. I'm never sure how true these statements are as we went to see the biggest one in Asia in Vietnam!!!
We had to cross the river again, on the previous trip i had seen a lady seeing crickets on a stick, i mentioned this to Abby who had tried them. We decided to keep a look out as much to Dans disgust i wanted to try one! Much to dan delight and my dissapointment we didnt see any bug son sticks, i will have to wait!!
We spent an hr at the waterfall, it was big even though it is the dry season at the moment. Again it was a hot day so we found ourselves a rock pool and had a dip. The water was actually warm but gave us some respite. Nearby on a tree was the biggest ugliest spider we have seen yet. Unfortunately i couldn't get a picture but it had a green and yellow striped body with red jowls, i shudder at the thought of it!!!
Next we had a boat trip down the Mekong, to a place where the Irrawaddy dolphins are normally sighted. We weren't sure how often they were seen and if we would see them at all. The boat stopped at some rocks in the middle of the river so we could get out and watch from there.
After about 15Min's we saw some, luckily i had bought my binoculars along and we caught a few glimpses. They were quite far out so we could only see them as their bodies curved out of the water. It was worth it tho, we left feeling privileged!!
We had one more waterfall to see on don kone, the boat dropped us at the island. Abby, yasu, dan and myself decided we would eat instead as we could see this waterfall ourselves during our stay on the island.
We had an hr before the boat was taking us to don det, but after a quick look around we decided we would stay on don kone. We found a place to stay and thanks to Abby's persistence and excellent bartering skills she managed to get us a good discount!!! (thanks Abby!!!)
Our rooms were nice, we had a bungalow between us, right beside the river and we had fans although they only worked between 6pm and 10pm. This meant that bedtime would be before the electricity went, for any chance of getting to sleep.
That evening we (Abby, yasu, Dan and i) had a walk around the island and made our way to the waterfall we were supposed to see earlier that day. It was quite big and there were strangle looking bamboo platforms, which the locals use in the wet season for fishing.
After dinner we made our way back to the bungalow, after a cold shower it was time to sleep. Getting to sleep wasn't a problem altho 11pm i was awake dripping with sweat, the heat is unbelievable, i had to have another shower to cool off before sleeping again!! Dan also struggled and was awake more of the night than i.
