Day 236 - In the morning we caught our flight to Seattle. It took ages to check-in and by the time we got through security it was straight onto the plane (oh well, less time for Lynne to get worked up about the flight!). We caught a public bus to our hotel (not fun with huge backpacks and another extra bag each!) and then found our room stank of stale cigarette smoke (and no other rooms to move to - apparently). We were staying right out of the city but quite close to the airport. Luckily there was a supermarket next door so we bought some provisions and cooked in our kitchenette that night (for the first time in ages!). Oh, it was also Ricky's 34th birthday!
Day 237 - To get out of our stinky room (now smelling of stale fags and our meal from the previous night!) we caught the bus into the city (about an hour and a half away). We walked down to Pike Place Market where we strolled through the various stalls of food, flowers and gifts. This is also the location of the very first "Starbucks" in Seattle. Early evening we met up with our friends from home, Katie and Paul (who we'd spent New Years Eve with in Sydney), as they were staying there on their way to Canada. We had a nice belated birthday meal at the Cheesecake Factory and then a couple of drinks in the Elephant & Castle pub (how very English!).
Day 238 - The day was pretty much spent trying to find somewhere to stay in New York on the internet. It is very expensive and very time consuming trying to find a bargain. We ended up booking a room in a hostel for $100 a night - still very expensive and yet one of the cheapest!
Day 239 - We moved hotels so we could spend a couple of nights in the city (and it was nice to get out of the smelly room!).
Day 240 - We took a walk down to the Waterfront and visited the Seattle Aquarium. Lynne was very happy as there were no sharks on display! We saw some very cute sea and river otters as well as sea lions and various other marine life. Afterwards we boarded a ferry to Bainbridge Island to get good views of the city. Here we had a cheap lunch of a slice of pizza and a cake! In the afternoon we had a walk around the Seattle Center (where the Seattle Needle is found).
Day 241 - As we were leaving the US the next day we went back to the hotel near the airport. Luckily we didn't get a stinky room this time!
