13th November
We got up this morning pleased to see the mosquitoes were gone, unfortunately Sarah had a particularly bad night due to her bites keeping her awake. There were a few fly’s buzzing about but nothing we couldn’t deal with.
After breakfast and packing away we went down the road to the Botanical garden, its was placed o the top of a mountain range so the views were lovely. We spent the morning enjoying the scenery and flora, we had a coffee then had lunch in a quiet spot before moving on.
30km down the road we stopped at the Zig zag railway, originally used in the 1800-1900’s for mining, it was quite pricey but we decided to have a ride anyway, unfortunately they weren’t running the steam train today but they still used an older model train. The ride took us down the old track used and the part which is still used by passenger trains today.
It was coming up to 4.30pm by the time we left the railway, we dove to Lithgow a larger town further west, here we did some food shopping and started looking for somewhere to stay for the night. Just outside of the town we spotted a sign for a lookout called Hassan’s wall so we decided to follow that road to check it out and a good job we did.
When we reached the summit we were pleased to find no signs saying no camping, the only problem was that most of the floor was rock so we would have to some find a way to fix Sarah’s tent. Thankfully we managed to secure it enough to hold it in place for the night, so we went to check out the view. It was amazing, we had at least a 270 degree view of the surrounding mountain range and valley’s, as usual we could not get any pictures to do it justice, so we just took our time to take it all in and enjoy it!
It was great to watch the sun set as we tucked into our veggie stir fry, not only had we found a beautiful place to camp it was also free. We decided that we would get up for sunrise as we would have a wonderful spot to view it from, with that in mind we had an early night.
