4 June 2008 - The ruins of ayuthaya

25th may

We got up at a reasonable hour and headed out with our map of the town. We had already noticed that the map didn't seem very accurate so it wasn't a surprise when we ended up in almost the complete opposite direction!! As it happened we stumbled across an old palace or home to the prince, so we spent and hr or so walking round.

We orientated ourselves on the map and set out to find the ancient palace, it seemed the scale of the map was wrong too as it took ages before we finally found it. En route we also found a few other ruins which we stopped to see.

The main attraction, the ancient palace had market stall with both food and goods and also plenty of elephants to ride on. We gave it a miss as we had done it in Laos but it still amazes me to have elephants strolling with nothing in between us!!

Dan and i treated ourselves and bought a man bag (for Dan) and a silk shoulder bag for myself.

I was beginning to feel pretty burnt at this point as we had been walking about all day so we headed back to the guest house. This town is just full of ruins, almost every where you look there is rubble on the floor even in between new houses there are ruins.

That evening we had dinner from a street vendor and spent some time on the internet, tomorrow we were heading back to bangkok.
