29th November
Sarah and I got up at 7am as we decided to have a 1hr walk to a nearby waterfall, thankful she hadn’t got wet in the night but pretty cold instead. It was good to walk through the forest, there re always plenty of things to see what with fallen down trees, moss growing all over the place and twisty vines snaking between branches.
By 8.45am we were back at the van, as we suspected Dan was still snoring away despite the racket coming fro the other groups staying here. We had breakfast then made our way back down the bumpy gravel track we came up yesterday.
The next tourist spot on the great ocean road was Cape Otway, here they have the oldest lighthouse in Australia. On the way there we saw more kolas hanging out in the eucalyptus branches, with plenty of tourists gathering round clicking away on their cameras…all trying to get the perfect shot!!
We spent a few hours at the light house, first off we had tea and cakes, as you’ve probably noticed we seem to e doing this a lot…needless to say our waistlines are suffering some what but spirits are always life as an immediate result!! It was raining so we were hoping that by the time we finished our tea and cake it would die off a bit.
It was still raining but luckily they had a video room which showed the history of the lighthouse so we watched that and by the time it had finished the rain had cleared. We climbed up the lighthouse and enjoyed the view from the top, it was unbelievably windy so we took a couple of pictures and dived back in for some shelter.
After a chat with one of the former lighthouse keepers we moved on to check out the old telecommunications building before having lunch perched on the back of the van. As we drove out of the lighthouse we stopped by the side of the road so we could get some close ups of the koalas in the trees.
We drove on to Prince town where we stopped to check out some campsites, we found a beautiful spot on the top of a hill over looking wetlands and fields, the campsite was reasonable priced to so we decided to stop here for the night.
After putting Sarah’s tent up Dan settled in his seat to read his magazine whilst Sarah and I enjoyed a walk down by the wetlands. We walked along and came across a couple of locals having a swim in the river, I have to say it didn’t look very inviting and although they assured us it was warm there faces told us a different story!!
We enjoyed a relaxed afternoon before having our tea and cups of hot chocolate with marshmallows!!
