An ancient indigenous relic, eerily reminiscent of some modern day cartoon icons.

El Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, I think this was called. Apparently this was used during human sacrifice when the person was placed inside. Alternatively, it could be some kind of early Dalek prototype. Photo taken from Parque Libertad, with statue celebrating independence in the foreground, Cathedral in the background. Inside a modern church in San Salvador called El Rosario where the sunlight shines through small pieces of stained glass set into the curved wall to beautiful effect. Amazingly, the entire surface of this church is made of sheet metal!
This caused quite a stir back when it was first made (50's I think), and has since been taken to symbolise freedom and independence.
