Africa can be an intimidating prospect even for the most adventurous tourist and half the battle is likely to be choosing where to start. Throughout this vast continent exists a plethora of exotic possibilities - breathtaking sites, sounds, scents and tastes, a world of new cultures and a myriad of potential unforgettable vacations eagerly await your final decision. So if you're still deciding between a trip to the Pyramids of Giza and a South African Adventure, here's a quick run down of Africa's top five visiting hot spots which might help you sort out your travel priorities.

As one of the seven natural wonders of the world, it's unsurprising that the Victoria Falls come at the top of the list. Situated in the southern part of Africa on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia in the middle of the Zambezi River, the spray from the largest waterfall in the world can be felt for miles around. The noise is deafening and the experience breathtaking. It is arguable that the surrounding area is also the most diverse in terms of wildlife and vegetation compared with that surrounding any of the other great waterfalls in the world. Seeing the Victoria Falls is a once in a life-time opportunity and an experience that will stay with you forever.

Moving onto a different category of wonders, the Pyramids at Giza are now the only remaining ancient wonder. They have maintained their position as Africa's greatest, most visited tourist destination for many years and will no doubt continue to do so for many more to come. This architectural miracle reveals not only the staggering engineering intelligence of the ancients but also their reverence to the numerous gods and kings of a fascinating culture.

For a more cosmopolitan treat, why not head to Cape Town? This multicultural city offers everything delectable by way of wining and dining, shopping, relaxing and sightseeing. Within an hours drive you can explore the mountains, go for a swim, see whales, sharks and even penguins - this truly is a city which has it all.

If you prefer the medieval over the modern, then the famous walled city of Fes in Morocco might be the destination for you. With a medley of bazaars and medieval curiosities to discover, Fes is one of the most fun cities through which to meander and explore at will, though if you're planning on making any souvenir purchases you should be prepared to haggle.

Last, but by no means least, is the spectacular Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Rising gloriously out of the Savannah, Africa's highest mountain is a must-see for intrepid climber or the natural/geological enthusiast. It is the world's tallest walkable mountain, so even if you have no previous climbing experience, with enough training most can accomplish this mammoth feat, where all physical effort is rewarded bountifully by the breathtaking views from the summit.

With low-cost airlines now servicing Africa; Monarch offer cheap deals on Egypt Holidays, while a number of airlines offer cheap flights to Marrakesh, Africa has never looked so appealing.
